We have recently added yet another member of staff to our Business Development team. Jack Durnin has joined Market Dojo as our BDE, or Business Development Executive. As with all new members of staff, we wanted to get to know Jack and get a grasp of his personality and interests. Below is a quick Q & A;
What made you apply to work at Market Dojo?
I was looking to expand my sales knowledge and experience at a company that really invests in and cares about its employees. After learning more about the team and getting the chance to meet them, it seemed like a no-brainer. The opportunity to learn more about the dark art of procurement also sparked my interest as it’s a field that’ll never die and understanding it can only help me in my career.
How have you found your time so far at Market Dojo and what have you found interesting?
I haven’t been at Market Dojo for very long (approximately 5 hours while writing this) but I’m already thoroughly impressed with how slick the company is. Everything from the solutions they provide to the processes used in the office are really efficient, and I’m a big fan of doing something the best way possible.
What are you hoping to achieve in your first year?
Short term I just want to be a sponge, taking in as much information as possible to ensure I develop a strong foundation to build on, by the end of my first year I want to be able to answer any question that’s thrown at me. Also, as anyone else in sales will tell you, smashing the targets is always the goal.
What is the most unusual job you have ever had?
My first job was at Dominos pizza, I got free pizza everyday and a ridiculous discount whenever I ordered. It was nice being the envy of all my friends and a valued attendee at any party. Have to admit it’s now ruined Dominos for the rest of my life.
What is your favourite movie?
Has got to be Kill Bill, anything that Tarentino touches is pure gold and Kill Bill is no exception. I love how overly stylized it is, I’ve always thought that directors should be more brave and stop making movies that just look like day to day life and more like a cartoon come to life.
What is the most embarrassing song you have on your phone?
The Venga Boys – We Like To Party. What an anthem, if the mood is right and you play this song at full volume you’ll have everybody in earshot jumping up and down, guaranteed
What are your hobbies and interests?
My main hobby is rock climbing, I’ve been doing it since my teen years and it’s an activity that never stops being challenging. It’s a great full body workout which rips your fingers to shreds and if you’re anything like me the pain only fuels more adrenaline (slightly sadistic I know). I also really enjoy slacklining, which is very similar to tightrope walking only on a flat rope that swings about a lot, it’s oddly relaxing once you get into it. I’m also quite into my cars and eager to learn more about them.
If you could be any animal what would you be?
A tortoise… imagine being that relaxed.
What actor would you cast to play yourself in a movie?
Andrew Garfield, I once got told I looked like him and to this day it’s the best compliment I’ve ever received.
What’s on your bucket list?
To travel and live abroad, mainly in Japan, I think it’s one of the most aesthetically pleasing places in the world and the car culture over there is second to none.
Stay tuned to hear more from Jack as his role develops. Find him on LinkedIn here.
